She first stopped by the Coumadin clinic to get her blood checked.
Next stop, the radiologist!
He checked all reports so far. He also could not find the tumor! (Yeeeeeeeee-haw!) Basically, he told her that, as far as what comes after all of her chemo treatments, she's got to make the final decision. She can do one of three things:
- lumpectomy - They would remove the section of her breast where the tumor was and that would be followed with radiation.
- complete mastectomy + the removal of 1 or 2 lymph nodes - If there's no cancer in the lymph nodes, then no radiation.
- If cancer IS found in the lymph nodes, then she'd have to have radiation.
Other good news today... She had the blood test to see if she was genetically predisposed to having cancer. There was no mutuation found and that means she has the same risk as the regular population. :-)
While she was at the radiologist, the nurse from the Coumadin clinic called and said that her levels were VERY high. Turns out that's a GOOD thing! That means her blood is thin enough. So, for at least the next couple of days, she can eat vegetables high in vitamin K and she doesn't have to take the Coumadin. She'll go back for another check on Friday.
Right after that appointment, she went to the grocery store and bought cabbage, broccoli and nuts! She was very excited! The key now is to make sure she doesn't injure herself (no cuts or bruises) because she would really bleed too much.
For her birthday (tomorrow), she's going out to eat with Steve and some friends and she's going to eat whatever she wants that is high in vitamin K!!!

Hey Laura... I'm glad to hear that things continue to go in a positive direction for you. Enjoy your veggies. I looked for you today as we were leaving Phoebe, but didn't see you in the waiting room, so you were either in with the Dr. or had already gone. We were leaving around 9:40. Happy Birthday.. See you at the Y.
Hey Laura,
Great news! I glad that you're feeling better & hopefully the food is tasting better by now.
You go girl!

I read that avocado and kiwi are both high in Vitamin K. Two of my favorite fruits. (If they are indeed fruits... I'm not sure.)
Chaz...long time no see! I hear about you from "my" connections. Sounds like you are doing ok. I hope you are staying out of trouble! Thanks for posting.
Harv, As for avocados and kiwi, I've been eating them without any knowledge of their vitamin K content. Good thing that what I don't know here hasn't hurt me!
Rock on! We praise God with you!
